clubs and activities
AIM | AIM (Academically Inclined Minds) is a group of 7th - 12th grade students that have qualified for the gifted program. Students are tested in order to qualify for this program. These students participate in various activities that change from year to year. They participate in many activities that are challenging but fun. |
Art Club | The Art Club's purpose is to create enthusiasm within the school and to promote the and experience activities in the arts. The Art Club is for seniors only and meets during 9th period. Membership is based on students who have an interest in art and expanding their interest. The Art Club also works with the Drama Club for the school productions. Students must maintain passing grades and show a willingness to work on different art projects throughout the school year. |
Chemistry Club | The Chemistry Club’s purpose is to increase enthusiasm in chemistry and to provide leadership opportunities to students. The officers will present various hands-on activities to the members. The members will then vote on what activity to do. The seniors will then prepare each activity. For instance, we have made Chromatography t-shirts, ectoplasm for Halloween, and used stoichiometry to launch potatoes. We also went on a field trip to ProChemTech , Analytical Services, and Blue Valley mine drainage treatment facility to see how chemistry works in the real world. We meet approximately twice per month. Future plans involve visiting the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor Building at Penn. State. Univ.I can also foresee trips to Willamette Industries, Straub Brewery, as well as some other manufacturing companies. |
Drama Club | The Brockway Area High School Drama Club produces two shows a year: a play or musical in the fall and a musical in the spring. Students in grades seven through twelve may sign up to participate in Drama Club productions. As a member of the Drama Club, students may audition to act on stage in a play or musical, may work on a show's technical crew, may create sets or props as part of the show's art crew, or may perform in the orchestra of a musical production. Every student participating in a play or musical earns points for the task completed - acting, technical crew, orchestra, art crew, etc. Students who accumulate enough points may be inducted into The International Thespian Society, an honor society for high school theatre performers. |
Envirothon (PA) | Envirothon is a yearly competition for students in grades 9-12 to compete against other schools in a variety of environmental topics including Soils, Wildlife, Forestry, Aquatics, and a rotational topic. |
FCCLA | Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national organization for students in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life: planning, goal setting, problem-solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication.Brockway FCCLA members use their skills to work together to raise money for local organizations. Members participate in bake sales, the candy cane exchange, and the Easter Bunny contest. The great thing about the Brockway chapter is that members determine what fundraising will be completed and what local organizations will benefit. FCCLA encourages young leaders to make choices to improve the community. |
Fly Tying Outdoor Club | The Fishing and Wildlife Club’s purpose is to educate the youth of Pennsylvania in the outdoors while instilling the importance of preserving wild, natural ecosystems. The overall goal of the club is to improve students' understanding of the world around them while making the community they live in a better place. Future activities that the club will participate in will include stream health and water quality assessments, stream restorations and repairs, field identification of organisms, guest speakers and different field/fishing trips. The club will meet approximately twice a month in and out of school. |
FFA | The FFA is an intracurricular organization that is open to any 8th - 12th grade student that is enrolled in an agricultural education class. The FFA used to be seen as for farmers only, but that has changed drastically over the last 30 years and it has become more open to anyone who is interested in any aspect of agriculture. This can include wildlife and hunting, animal science, plants, shop skills, food science, and much more! The goal of the organization is to help prepare students for life outside of high school, whether that is entering the workforce or going to college. |
GAPP | German American Partnership Program (GAPP) is a non-profit high school exchange program between schools in Germany and the United States, sponsored by the German Foreign Office and by the US Department of State. The main objective of the Program is the integration of students into the everyday life of host families and into the classroom activities of host schools to provide them with a coherent intercultural experience. |
HS Trap League | The High School Trap league provides girls and boys in grades 9th through 12th the opportunity to participate in unique high school sport, trap shooting. The season runs from March through mid May. Each student receives safety training by a National Rifle Association trained instruction along with one-on-one training at the shooting line at practices. |
Interact | Interact is a service organization linked to Rotary International. The purpose is to encourage students to think beyond themselves and work for the betterment of others. Members of Interact should have a desire to give back to their local and global community. Students participate in community service projects throughout the year, with at least one being local and at least one being national. |
Library Club | BAHS Library Club members volunteer to assist the librarian during their study halls. The students help by shelving books and videos, preparing magazines for student use, delivering TV's to and from teachers, and more. They also learn more about the inside of the library and help promote it in the rest of the school. Membership is open during the first quarter of the school year, and once accepted into the club, students are scheduled to work in the library during specific time periods. Students must be willing and able to work in the library during their study halls, pass their classes, and participate in club activities, meetings, and fundraisers. |
Model UN | Model UN is a club that simulates the United Nations, where students take on the roles of diplomats from different countries to debate and find solutions to global issues, develop critical thinking, public speaking, and research skills while engaging with world affairs |
Mock Trial | Is an academically oriented club that is open to students in grades 10-12. Students, with assistance from a teacher and lawyer advisors, organize and prepare a legal brief covering a case provided by the Pennsylvania Bar Association. In January and February the students will compete against other schools by arguing both sides of the case at various local county courthouses. Mock Trial has both eligibility and attendance requirements. Participants need to be highly self motivated and possess superior Language Arts skills such as writing, reading and public speaking. |
National History Day | This club is a year-long academic program for grades 7-12 that challenges students to conduct in-depth research on historical topics. Students choose a theme, conduct research, analyze evidence, and create a final product to present their findings. Categories include historical paper, exhibit, website, documentary, and performance. |
Prom Committee | Members of the Junior Class who meet and plan the Jr. - Sr. Prom. This committee has both eligibility & attendance requirements. |
Ski Club | A student funded club that skis at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY. We ski on Saturdays when the snow is good, and stop when the snow is gone. |
Student Council | The student council consists of several students from each grade who run and become elected by their peers. The student council plans dances such as the back-to-school dance and the junior high snowball. Student council members are also responsible for planning and preparing homecoming festivities. Throughout the year they also complete or participate in various service projects along with other activities that promote school spirit. At the end of each school year, all active members get to take a field trip. |
